  • MR322 Point Motor Switch (coil type)
  • This switch must only be used on point motors that require a short pulse of power to change their state.

Replacement & more for a Passing Contact Switch

If you have STALL type point motors use the MR318 Board

THIS SWITCH UNIT REQUIRES NO EXTRA WIRES, NO SENSORS, NO SOLDERING - TO GIVE YOU A POINTS SWITCH WITH STATUS INDICATION & REMOTE INDICATION -  JUST THE WIRING YOU WOULD NORMALLY DO.

As the points only require a short pulse to energise them, there is no way to indicate the position of the points after they have changed, until now. This momentary switch has a built in relay and bi-colour LED. It therefore only requires 3 wires to the set of points, and does not require any wires back from the points to indicate the status of the points. This circuit will also indicate the correct status of the points the next time you power up your layout.

The  LED is set at 20mm from the centre of the switch, and at the correct height not to require a LED mount, just a 5mm hole.

The Switch assembly can be set 28mm apart to create a bank of switches.

Connection of this Switch assembly is very simple.

For non CDU use Wiring as follows: - Looking at the terminal side of the board. Connect the Power from your Auxiliary Supply to both +V’s (max 16vDC) and the 0V.

Now connect the three wires from the points set

If you want the Green Led to indicate straight through, and the Red Led to indicate Turn out, set up as follows.

Set the points to straight and then push the switch up to light the Green LED. There should be no movement of the points. If the points have moved, then swap around the wires in C1 & C2, and try again.

If you have previously not used a CDU & are going to use one now, then just replace the wire on the 2nd +v with the positive output from the CDU

If you have a Mimic Display Panel.

There is a 3 pin socket next to the LED on the terminal side of the board, they are numbered 1, 2, 3 with 3 being closest to the edge of the board. When the switch is pushed up the top LED with be latched ON which you could use as the straight through on the Mimic Panel, and depending on which coil you have connected C1 to will move the points to the Straight through. When the switch is pushed down the top LED will go out and the bottom LED will be illuminated and should be positioned on the Mimic panel to indicate the points are in the turn out position.

The wiring for these is shown below:

Based on the Mimic panel one of the Green LED’s around the Points P2 will be on at all times. On the Switch Panel you will either have a Green LED for ‘Straight’ or a Red LED for ‘Turn’

This switch assembly will work on any propriety manufactured 2 coil type Point Motor, that requires a 'Passing Contact Switch' or a 'Momentary Switch' to energise the point motor.

The LED indicator will show the correct state of the points at the next session even when power is removed at the end of a session or day.
